When do videogames end and virtual exhibitions begin?

Gabrielle Jenks, digital director for Manchester International Festival will be talking about the festival’s recent digital commission “Your Progress Will be Saved”. For the work, acclaimed avatar artist LaTurbo Avedon was invited to reimagine and recreate Manchester International Festival’s new cultural venue The Factory within Fortnite Creative. Since launching in July 2020 the virtual venue has welcomed over 1 million visitors, and all before its ‘real world’ venue counterpart has even opened its doors.

Gabrielle joins us to talk through the project’s conception, realisation and launch and to reflect on the future possibilities for videogames and cultural institutions and the creators and curators who work alongside them.

Your Progress Will Be Saved was made within Fortnite Creative as part of the hugely popular video game Fortnite. You can experience it as a player within Fortnite. It can be found within the game using the code 1248-2128-4287.
